Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 4 slices swiss cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions 

  • Mix ground beef, salt, and pepper; form into 4 patties.
  • Caramelize sliced onions in butter; set aside.
  • Cook patties in the same skillet until cooked through.
  • Butter one side of each bread slice.
  • Assemble patty melts: bread (butter-side down), cheese, patty, onions, cheese, bread (butter-side up).
  • Cook until golden brown and cheese is melted.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the ground beef mixture.
