  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 package)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110-115°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions 

  • Combine 2 cups flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a large bowl.
  • Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Beat until smooth.
  • Gradually add remaining flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise for 1-1.5 hours.
  • Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces.
  • Shape each piece into a ball and place in a greased baking dish.
  • Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Brush with melted butter, if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a touch of honey or garlic powder to the dough.
