Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) (optional)
  • additional powdered sugar for rolling

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cream butter and powdered sugar until fluffy. Mix in vanilla.
  • Whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture.
  • Fold in nuts if using. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on baking sheet.
  • Bake 12-15 minutes. Cool slightly, then roll in powdered sugar.

Notes

For best results, use fresh spices and softened butter.
