These easy homemade biscuits are fluffy, tender, and perfect for breakfast or as a side dish. Made with simple ingredients, they're ready in under 30 minutes!

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour ((500g))
  • 2 Tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 12 Tablespoons unsalted butter (very cold (unsalted European butter is ideal, but not required))
  • 1.5 cups whole milk ((354ml) – buttermilk or 2% milk will also work)

Instructions

  • Chill butter in the freezer for 10-20 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 425F and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large bowl and mix well.
  • Cut butter into flour mixture using a pastry cutter or shred with a box grater. Combine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add milk and stir until combined (don’t over-work the dough).
  • Transfer dough to a floured surface, fold in half 5-6 times, taking care not to overwork the dough.
  • Flatten dough to 1″ thick. Cut biscuits with a 2 ¾” cutter and place on baking sheet.
  • Bake on 425F for 12 minutes or until tops are lightly golden brown.
  • Brush with melted salted butter (optional). Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use very cold butter and don't overwork the dough.
