Delight in these classic, soft, and chewy sugar cookies that are perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Dough

all-purpose flour

baking soda

salt

baking powder

unsalted butter
(at cool room temperature)

granulated sugar

egg
(plus 1 large egg yolk)

pure vanilla extract

granulated sugar
(for rolling cookies in)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheet with parchment.
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, then add egg, yolk, and vanilla.
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mix until combined. Form dough into balls, coat in sugar.
Place on baking sheet, bake for 10-14 minutes until golden. Cool on rack.
Store in airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for 3 months.
Notes
For softer cookies, do not overbake.
