A classic and creamy homemade white gravy perfect for biscuits, chicken fried steak, or mashed potatoes. This simple recipe uses just a few ingredients and comes together in minutes.

  • 0.5 stick salted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions 

  • Melt butter in sauce pan on medium-low. Add half of the pepper to the butter. Cook until butter is melted.
  • Create a roux whisking in the flour to the butter. Make sure there are no clumps.
  • Slowly whisk in milk. Keep your flame on medium-low. Whisk until thick, about 5 minutes.
  • Add in the remaining black pepper to taste and a little salt if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a richer gravy, use whole milk or add a tablespoon of heavy cream at the end.
