  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef (keema)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 cup potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • cooked rice or naan bread (for serving)

Instructions 

  • Heat oil in a pot, brown meat, then add onion, garlic, and ginger. Cook until fragrant.
  • Stir in spices and cook for 1 minute.
  • Add tomatoes, potatoes, and broth. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  • Stir in peas and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Garnish with cilantro and serve over rice or with naan.

Notes

Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to your preferred level of spiciness.
