Divide ground beef into 4 portions.
Smash each portion thin on a hot skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook 2-3 minutes per side.
Melt butter in a separate skillet, place a tortilla in the skillet, and top with a patty, cheese, and onion.
Fold the tortilla in half and cook 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
Repeat with remaining ingredients.
Cut into wedges and serve with your favorite burger toppings.
Notes
Use a burger press or sturdy spatula to get the patties as thin as possible for the best smashburger effect.
