These soft and fluffy dinner rolls are elevated with a touch of blue spirulina for a unique twist. Perfect for any meal, they're sure to impress!

  • 3.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cup sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk (not hot)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 0.33 cup softened butter
  • Milk (before baking)
  • Melted butter (after baking)

Instructions 

  • Add flour, yeast, salt, sugar, warm milk, and egg to a stand mixer.
  • Mix on low speed for about 1 minute until combined.
  • Add softened butter and mix for 2–3 minutes until the dough begins to come together.
  • Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface.
  • Knead 3–5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Divide dough into 16 equal pieces.
  • Roll each into a smooth ball.
  • Take one small piece of dough
  • Mix in ½ teaspoon blue spirulina powder
  • Knead until evenly colored
  • Roll into rope shapes
  • Arrange along the edges of your baking pan
  • Place dough balls in a greased or parchment-lined pan.
  • Leave slight space between them.
  • Cover and let rest for 10 minutes while preheating oven to: 400°F (200°C)
  • Brush tops lightly with milk.
  • Bake 10–15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Brush warm rolls with melted butter right after baking.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of garlic powder to the melted butter before brushing the rolls.
