Enjoy these classic, chewy chocolate chip cookies with a perfect balance of sweetness and crunch.
Ingredients
Dough

cups
butter (softened but not melted)

cups
white sugar

cups
brown sugar (packed)
2
eggs
2
teaspoons
vanilla bean paste

all-purpose flour

teaspoon
baking soda
2
teaspoons
hot water
½
teaspoon
salt

Chocolate chips

chopped pecans or walnuts
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350º F (175º C).
Cream butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Dissolve baking soda in hot water, add to mixture with salt. Mix in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts.
Drop spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets, 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10 minutes until edges are golden. Cool on sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
Notes
For softer cookies, slightly underbake and cool on sheets.
