These sweet biscuits are perfect for strawberry shortcake! They're easy to make and taste delicious.

Ingredients

Biscuit Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (cut into cubes)
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (cold)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Make a well and pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and pat into a 3/4-inch thick rectangle.
  • Use a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits. Place biscuits onto the baking sheet.
  • Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before serving with strawberry shortcake.

Notes

For best results, use very cold butter and buttermilk. This will help create a flaky biscuit.
